20 Construction Trades Unions More Than 3,000 Men and Women

These men and women are an intricate part of Central Kentucky’s workforce, our region’s economy, and future economic prosperity.

About Central Kentucky B.C.T.C

Our council has helped its 20 affiliated building trades unions to make job sites safer, deliver apprenticeship and journey-level training, organize new workers, support legislation that affects working families, and assist in securing improved wages, hours and working conditions through collective bargaining and project labor agreements.
The labor movement continues to lead the charge to protect working people from workplace injury, illness and death.

Additional benefits of joint labor/management Apprenticeship Programs are:

APPRENTICESHIP & TRAINING

We committed to training and workforce development in the construction industry, as demonstrated through our investment in registered apprenticeship.

IMMIGRATION

North America’s Building Trades Unions joined a unified labor movement in urging Congress to pursue a solution to our broken immigration system that is comprehensive and that puts workers first.

PROJECT LABOR AGREEMENTS

Today, many building trades councils across the country are structuring PLAs to include what are known as “Community Workforce Agreements,” or CWAs, in order to build ladders of opportunity into the skilled construction trades for local residents, women and veterans.

What We Care About

The importance of a strong workforce and workplace standards

HEALTH & SAFETY

The health and safety of building trades members, and all construction workers, on the jobsite is paramount. We are committed to the highest levels of safety in the construction industry, and through CPWR – the Center for Construction Research and Training, advances policies that reduce injuries, illnesses, and fatalities on the job site.

PREVAILING WAGE LAWS

The Davis-Bacon Act mandates payment of local prevailing wages on projects funded by the federal government. It prevents competition for federal construction contracts from artificially depressing local labor standards.

MULTIEMPLOYER PENSION PLANS

Multiemployer pension plans serve the needs of building trades workers in their hard-earned and well-deserved retirement. CKBCTC is committed to fighting to preserve the security and sustainability of these plans.

C.K.B.C.T.C committed to help working people

All working people deserve good jobs and the power to determine their wages and working conditions. Here are some of the ways working people are uniting to make an economy that works for us all.

When working people come together, they make things better for everyone. Joining together in unions enables workers to negotiate for higher wages and benefits and improve conditions in the workplace. There are millions of union members in America from all walks of life. These individuals know that by speaking up together, you can accomplish more than you could on your own.

Union members work together to negotiate and enforce a contract with management that guarantees the things you care about like decent raises, affordable health care, job security, and a stable schedule.

To protect the interests of all affiliates; promote harmony and stability in the Building and Construction Industry; preserve the autonomy of affiliates; encourage higher standards of citizenship among affiliates. -Bylaws Art. II
